Sesame
Our Plant
WACOT operates a fully integrated sesame processing plant established in 2011. The plant located in Ogba, Lagos, processes premium quality natural cleaned sesame, premium sesame seeds, and hulled sesame that meets international quality, food, and export standards.
The factory processes about 10,000 MT of hulled sesame seeds that guarantee 99.99% quality, and 6000 MT of premium sesame seeds that boast of 99.97% quality.
WACOT continually aligns with the UN sustainable development goals to utilize clean and environmentally safe energy alternatives by adopting the compressed natural gas (CNG) plant at the sesame factory.
Origination
We source raw sesame from many states across the North Central region of Nigeria as well as Kano, Gombe and others. These are sourced directly at farm gates or commodities markets or through our Outgrower Programme.

Sesame Outgrower Programme
Through the sesame outgrower programme, WACOT consistently works with origin farmers to improve yield and productivity while boosting youth and women engagement in farming- as gender inclusion and equity are standards highly upheld by WACOT LTD.
We work with thousands of smallholder farmers who cultivate several hectares of land. Through the programme, we guarantee offtake, provide inputs, provide extension support on demo farms and individual plots, and then support farmers with trainings on good agricultural practices and yield enhancement techniques. At harvest, the crop is purchased at prevailing market prices.
Organic Sesame
In line with our drive to achieve sustainability milestones and in keeping with our commitment to backward integration, WACOT has created a niche for organic sesame production in Jigawa State, Nigeria. The organic sesame programme produces sesame that is pesticide, fertilizer, and disease-free, through alternative natural crop management practices.
Our organic sesame is currently being cultivated on 81 hectares of arable land, recording an average of 117kg/hectare per planting season. We have about 200 women working across the value chain, this constitutes 56% of the entire work force.
